Beskrivelse af Sir Thomas Browne's Religio Medici
Sir Thomas Browne's Religio Medici is a book written by the English author and physician Sir Thomas Browne. The book is a personal exploration of Browne's own religious beliefs and his views on the relationship between science and religion. It was first published in 1642 and has since become a classic of English literature. In the book, Browne reflects on the mysteries of the universe and the human condition, exploring questions of faith, mortality, and the nature of existence. He draws on a wide range of sources, from the Bible to classical literature, and offers his own unique perspective on these timeless themes.Despite its title, Religio Medici is not a work of theology or religious doctrine. Rather, it is a deeply personal and introspective work, in which Browne shares his own struggles and doubts as he seeks to understand the world around him.Throughout the book, Browne's prose is rich and poetic, blending scientific observation with philosophical reflection. His writing is both erudite and accessible, making Religio Medici a rewarding read for scholars and general readers alike.Overall, Sir Thomas Browne's Religio Medici is a fascinating and thought-provoking exploration of faith and reason, and a testament to the enduring power of human curiosity and inquiry.1881. In Religio Medici, Brown delivers many thing rhetorically, many expressions therein merely tropical and they best illustrate his intention. All contained therein is in submission to maturer discernments. Included in this volume is Christian Morals. In this exposition, there is a greater mixture of strange and pedantic words and also a more frequent allusion to events and personages in ancient and medieval history. It contains nothing equal in piety or eloquence as is found in Religio Medici. Also found within this work is Brown's A Letter to a Friend, upon Occasion of the Death of his Intimate Friend. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
