Beskrivelse af Semi-Society (1903)
Semi-Society is a novel written by Frank Richardson and first published in 1903. The story takes place in London and follows the lives of a group of upper-class socialites, known as the ""semi-society"". The novel explores the relationships and scandals that arise within this exclusive group, as well as the societal pressures and expectations that come with their privileged status. The central character of the novel is Lady Muriel Orme, a beautiful and wealthy young woman who is admired and desired by many of the men in the semi-society. However, Lady Muriel is not content with her life and begins to question the shallow values and attitudes of those around her. She becomes involved in a scandalous affair with a married man, which threatens to ruin her reputation and social standing. As the story unfolds, the reader is introduced to a cast of complex and intriguing characters, including Lady Muriel's scheming mother, her jealous rival for the affections of her lover, and a group of male socialites who are more interested in their own status and pleasure than in forming genuine relationships.Through the lens of semi-society, Richardson explores themes of love, desire, ambition, and the corrupting influence of wealth and privilege. The novel provides a fascinating glimpse into the world of the British upper classes at the turn of the 20th century, and remains a compelling and entertaining read today. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
