Boston in the 1770s is a tense place. The patriots object to a government across the sea deciding their taxes, and the redcoats have been sent in to keep order. All Jack wants is to stay out of trouble, and to protect his little sister - but when the fighting breaks out, he knows he'll need to pick a side. Paris in the 1790s is full of excitement as the Revolution promises liberty, equality and fraternity for all. Catherine is proud to have a father in the new government, and pleased to have made a new friend who is just as thrilled by the Revolution as she is. But not everyone feels the same way - and terror will soon take over the city. Wexford in 1798 is waiting for word about an uprising. The United Irishmen are plotting for the country to be free from Britain, even as members of the illegal secret society are urged to turn in their weapons.
