Part One Josef
Chapters One - Eight Moravia, the village of Jablunka, December 1846 In a forest, two people, Maria Benes and her son Janos are dead from typhus. One survivor remains, Josef. He goes top the village priest for help. The overseer assigns him to the village pigkeeper, Milos, who in return for claiming to be his father receives a free helper. In the spring Milos sells him to the General Overseer Karl Radek. So begins a journey that will bring Josef to Canada. Part Two: The Hunter Paul Jessup is a hired to find Josef Krivanek. He traces him to Kilmarnock. Posing as an artist he tries to persuade him to leave. Josef, now Peter MacTavish refuses telling him that the only chance he has to believe that he is Alex's son is to remain where Alex had lived. Jessup goes to Doctor McKay and offers to persuade Godwin that Josef is dead. In return he receives a small plot of land on which to build a house. Peter MacTavish begins his new life in Kilmarnock Part Three Winter Peter settles into life in Kilmarnock. Riddled with fear and distrust he is slow to open himself up to his new home. Eventually he grows to trust the McKays. Part IV: Jessup Returns
