Beskrivelse af Salvage (1880)
Salvage is a novel written by Elizabeth Wormeley Latimer and published in 1880. The story is set in the late 19th century and follows the life of a young woman named Edith Trehearne, who is orphaned at a young age and forced to live with her cruel and abusive uncle. Edith's life takes a turn for the worse when her uncle dies and she is left penniless and alone.Desperate for a way out of her situation, Edith decides to take a job as a governess for the wealthy and influential Whitworth family. As she becomes more involved in their lives, she discovers that they have their own secrets and problems. The eldest son, Arthur, is engaged to a woman he does not love, and the youngest son, Frank, is struggling with alcoholism.Despite these challenges, Edith finds herself falling in love with Arthur and must navigate the complex social dynamics of their relationship. Meanwhile, she also becomes involved in Frank's struggles and tries to help him overcome his addiction.Salvage is a story about love, family, and redemption. It explores the themes of class, gender, and social status in Victorian society and offers a glimpse into the lives of those who lived during this time period. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
