Beskrivelse af Reminiscences Of Childhood At Inverkeithing
Reminiscences of Childhood at Inverkeithing: Or Life at a Lazaretto is a memoir written by James Simson and first published in 1882. The book is a personal account of Simson's childhood experiences growing up in Inverkeithing, a small town in Scotland, during the early 19th century. Simson's childhood was unique in that he grew up in a lazaretto, a quarantine station for ships and sailors who were suspected of carrying contagious diseases such as cholera and smallpox. His father was the superintendent of the lazaretto, and Simson spent much of his childhood playing among the ships and interacting with the sailors who passed through. The book is divided into chapters that describe various aspects of life at the lazaretto, including the daily routines of the sailors, the medical procedures used to treat contagious diseases, and the social interactions between the sailors and the residents of Inverkeithing. Simson also writes about his own experiences growing up in this unique environment, including his education, his relationships with other children, and his interactions with his father and other adults.Overall, Reminiscences of Childhood at Inverkeithing provides a fascinating glimpse into a little-known aspect of Scottish history, as well as a personal account of one man's childhood experiences in a unique and challenging environment. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
