Beskrivelse af Pygmalion (1881)
Pygmalion is a book written by Thomas Woolner and published in 1881. The book is a retelling of the classic Greek myth of Pygmalion, a sculptor who falls in love with his own creation, a statue of a beautiful woman. In Woolner's version, Pygmalion is a young artist who becomes obsessed with a statue he has created, which he believes to be the perfect representation of female beauty. He spends his days and nights in his studio, admiring and caressing the statue, until one day, the statue comes to life. The woman, named Galatea, is initially confused and frightened by her sudden existence, but she soon learns to love Pygmalion and becomes his devoted wife. However, their happiness is short-lived, as Pygmalion's obsession with his art drives him to neglect his wife and their relationship deteriorates. The book explores themes of love, obsession, and the dangers of pursuing perfection at the expense of human relationships. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
