Beskrivelse af Prisons Of Air (1891)
""Prisons of Air"" is a novel by Moncure Daniel Conway, first published in 1891. The story follows the life of a young woman named Zillah Levice, who is born into a wealthy Jewish family in San Francisco. Zillah is a talented artist, but her family disapproves of her unconventional ways and forces her into a loveless marriage with a man she does not love.Zillah's life takes a dramatic turn when she meets a charismatic Hindu guru named Swami Vivekananda, who introduces her to the teachings of Vedanta and inspires her to pursue a life of spiritual fulfillment. Zillah becomes deeply involved in the Vedantic movement and travels to India to study with Vivekananda and other spiritual leaders. As Zillah becomes more immersed in the world of Vedanta, she begins to question the values and beliefs of her upbringing, including her Jewish faith. She also becomes involved in a love triangle with two men, one a fellow Vedantist and the other a wealthy American businessman.Throughout the novel, Conway explores themes of spirituality, religion, and social conventions, as well as the conflicts between tradition and modernity. ""Prisons of Air"" is a thought-provoking and engaging novel that offers a unique perspective on turn-of-the-century America and the spiritual awakening that was taking place at the time. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
