Pierrette

Bag om Pierrette

""Pierrette"" is a novel by Honore de Balzac, first published in 1840. The story is set in the fictional town of Blangy-sur-Bresle, where a young orphan girl named Pierrette is taken in by her wealthy relatives, the Rogrons. Pierrette is a kind and innocent girl, but her relatives are cruel and manipulative, and they mistreat her in various ways.Despite the mistreatment, Pierrette remains loyal to her family and tries to please them. She becomes friends with her cousin Sylvie, who is also mistreated by the family. The two girls form a close bond and rely on each other for support. As the story progresses, Pierrette's health begins to decline, and she becomes increasingly isolated from her family. She eventually dies, and her death causes a rift in the family that leads to further tragedy. The novel explores themes of family, loyalty, and social class, and is considered one of Balzac's most poignant works. When there is an old maid in a house, watch-dogs are unnecessary; not the slightest event can occur that she does not see and comment upon and pursue to its utmost consequences. The foregoing trifling circumstance was therefore destined to give rise to grave suppositions, and to open the way for one of those obscure dramas which take place in families, and are none the less terrible because they are secret, --if, indeed, we may apply the word ""drama"" to such domestic occurrences. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
