Beskrivelse af Pereat Rochus
Pereat Rochus is a novel written by Italian author Antonio Fogazzaro. The title translates to ""Rochus Shall Perish"" and refers to the main character, Rochus, who is a young man struggling with his faith and his place in the world. Set in the late 19th century in a small Italian village, the novel explores themes of religion, morality, and the conflict between tradition and modernity.Rochus is torn between his desire to follow his heart and his duty to his family and the Catholic Church. He falls in love with a young woman named Luisa, who is engaged to another man. Rochus is consumed by his feelings for Luisa and begins to question his faith and the teachings of the Church. As he struggles with his beliefs, he becomes increasingly isolated from his family and community. The novel also explores the lives of other characters in the village, including Luisa's fianc, a wealthy landowner, and a group of young men who are interested in modernizing the village. Through these characters, Fogazzaro examines the tensions between tradition and progress, and the impact of social change on rural communities.Pereat Rochus is a complex and thought-provoking novel that delves into deep philosophical and religious questions. It is a powerful exploration of the human condition and the struggle to find one's place in the world. This troubled face, this affectionate tone, softened poor Don Rocco's heart, petrified by pain and surprise. This time two real tears fell from his palpitating eyelids. His mouth, closed tight, was twisting and trembling, but still resisted. Seeing then that he answered not a word, the professor ran to the stairs and called down that the physician should be sent for. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
