Beskrivelse af Paul's Case
""Paul's Case"" is a short story written by Willa Cather, first published in 1905. The story follows the life of a young man named Paul, who lives in Pittsburgh and dreams of a life of luxury and excitement. Paul is unhappy with his mundane life and feels out of place in his working-class family and school. He becomes obsessed with the idea of wealth and status, and begins to steal money from his father to fund his extravagant lifestyle. Paul eventually runs away to New York City, where he spends all of his stolen money on luxurious clothes, hotel rooms, and entertainment. He becomes a regular at the theater and opera, and enjoys the attention and admiration of the wealthy people he meets. However, his reckless spending soon catches up with him, and he is forced to return to Pittsburgh. Back home, Paul is confronted by his father and teachers, who are disappointed in his behavior. Paul becomes increasingly despondent and depressed, and eventually takes his own life by jumping in front of a train. The story explores themes of alienation, materialism, and the search for identity in a society that values wealth and status above all else.THIS 42 PAGE ARTICLE WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE BOOK: Youth and the Bright Medusa, by Willa Cather.
