Beskrivelse af Pan
Pan is a novel written by Knut Hamsun, a Norwegian author, and was first published in 1894. The story is set in rural Norway and follows the life of a young painter named Lieutenant Thomas Glahn. He has isolated himself from society and lives alone in a forest cabin, where he spends his days hunting and fishing.Glahn's life changes when he meets Edvarda, the daughter of a wealthy merchant. Despite their different social backgrounds, they fall in love, and Glahn becomes obsessed with her. However, their relationship is complicated by Edvarda's engagement to another man and her flirtatious behavior towards other men.Throughout the novel, Glahn's mental state deteriorates as he struggles with his love for Edvarda and his isolation from society. He also has encounters with a mysterious and enigmatic figure known as Pan, who symbolizes the natural world and the irrational forces of the human psyche. The novel is known for its vivid descriptions of nature and its exploration of themes such as love, desire, and the human condition. It is considered one of Hamsun's most important works and has been translated into numerous languages.I fancy I can read a little in the souls of those about me--but perhaps it is not so. Oh, when my good days come, I feel as if I could see far into others' souls, though I am no great or clever head. We sit in a room, some men, some women, and I, and I seem to see what is passing within them, and what they think of me. I find something in every swift little change of light in their eyes; sometimes the blood rises to their cheeks and reddens them; at other times they pretend to be looking another way, and yet they watch me covertly from the side. There I sit, marking all this, and no one dreams that I see through every soul. For years past I have felt that I could read the souls of all I met. But perhaps it is not so...This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
