Beskrivelse af Ormond Or The Secret Witness
""Ormond Or The Secret Witness"" is a novel written by Charles Brockden Brown. The story revolves around Constantia Dudley, a young woman who is forced to flee her home after her father is accused of treason. She seeks refuge with her friend, Isabella, and her husband, Mr. Ormond. However, she soon discovers that Mr. Ormond is not who he seems to be, and that he is hiding a dark secret. The story takes several twists and turns as Constantia tries to uncover the truth about Mr. Ormond and his past. Along the way, she encounters several other characters, including a mysterious stranger who may hold the key to the secret that Mr. Ormond is hiding. The novel is a gripping tale of suspense and intrigue, and is considered to be one of Brown's most accomplished works. It was now dusk and she hastened to perform this duty. Whiston's dwelling was wooden and of small dimensions. She lifted the latch softly and entered. The lower room was unoccupied. She advanced to the foot of a narrow staircase, and knocked and listened, but no answer was returned to the summons. Hence there was reason to infer that no one was within, but this, from other considerations, was extremely improbable. The truth could be ascertained only by ascending the stair. Some feminine scruples were to be subdued before this proceeding could be adopted. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
