Beskrivelse af On Tiptoe
On Tiptoe: A Romance of the Redwoods is a novel written by Stewart Edward White. The story takes place in the redwood forests of northern California and follows the lives of two main characters, John Cardigan and his daughter, Shirley. John Cardigan is a wealthy lumber magnate who owns a large portion of the redwood forest, while Shirley is a young woman who has grown up in the shadow of her father's success. When a rival lumber company threatens to take over Cardigan's land, John and Shirley must fight to protect their family legacy. Along the way, they encounter a cast of colorful characters, including a Native American guide, a handsome young engineer, and a group of environmental activists. As the battle for the redwoods heats up, John and Shirley must navigate their personal relationships and confront their own beliefs about the value of the natural world. On Tiptoe: A Romance of the Redwoods is a sweeping tale of love, loss, and redemption set against the backdrop of one of America's most iconic landscapes.1922. The novel begins: The great Intelligences who work back of our ordered universe are obscure to us. They move without haste and in their own good time. Never are their faces revealed to us. We are aware of them by their deeds, by their shadowed reflections in men, by the interactions of their laws which never change. Nothing do we know and few things have we guessed of their intentions or the aim of their mighty progressions. At one extreme of our vision the primal ooze; at the other, men as we know them; beyond that veil.
