Not the Worst Thing

The premise of Not the Worst Thing: Life and Death in Clinical Ethics is that death is not the worst thing that can happen to a person. Rather, the inappropriate overuse of life-sustaining medical treatments and technologies impair the dignity of the dying patient. Not the Worst Thing covers issues such as quality of life, informed choice and consent, the persistent vegetative state, artificial nutrition and hydration, palliative sedation, pain management, futile treatment, healthcare costs, and physician-assisted suicide.
