Bag om Nildevi

Nildevi is a hindi Drama by Bhartendu Harishchandra published in 1881. Bhartendu Harishchandra is considered by many to be one of the greatest Hindi writers of modern India and the father of modern Hindi literature. Harishchandra was well regarded for his poetry, as well as for innovating a new style of prose. He authored several dramas, depictions of everyday life, and travel accounts. However, Harishchandra's most notable work addresses the troubles of the common people, poverty, exploitation, the unrest of the middle class, and the urge for the national progress. He was an influential Hindu "traditionalist," trying to maintain continuity with received tradition while participating in the increasingly modern world. His work expressed his intense feelings about poverty in India and centuries of foreign domination and colonialism.
