Beskrivelse af Narratives of the Anglo-Zulu War, 1879
A riveting collection of Zulu War accounts from the British perspective
This unique book gathers together, possibly for the first time in a single volume, fifteen shorter accounts concerning the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879 . Several of them have been referenced in Zulu War bibliographies, but may have been difficult to access in more recent times for those with a casual interest in their topics since they originally appeared in contemporary journals or magazine articles. Others are extracts from biographies or other histories. Rorke's Drift memories come from Chard, Hook and the station surgeon, Reynolds. Another interesting account comes from surgeon D. Blair Brown who treated the wounded from the Rorke's Drift engagement and elsewhere. Two comparatively substantial and interesting accounts come from Hart-Synnot who served as a staff officer and from Hugh McAlmont who was an ADC. This volume also contains a description of the 91st Argyllshire Highlanders during the conflict, whilst Harry O'Clery reports his experiences from the ranks of The Buffs. Zulu War Victorian Cross medal awards are also described among other informative accounts concerning events and personalities. This book provides an excellent compendium which should be a welcome addition to most libraries of the Zulu War. Contains photographs, illustrations and maps.
