Beskrivelse af More's History Of King Richard III (1883)
More's History of King Richard III is a historical account written by Thomas More in 1513-1518, which was first published in 1557. The book chronicles the life and reign of King Richard III, who ruled England from 1483 to 1485. More, who was a lawyer and statesman, was commissioned by King Henry VIII to write a history of Richard III's reign. The book is considered to be one of the most important historical sources on Richard III, as More was a contemporary of the king and had access to many primary sources. More's History of King Richard III is divided into two parts. The first part covers the events leading up to Richard III's ascension to the throne, including the death of his brother King Edward IV and the imprisonment of his nephews, the princes in the Tower. The second part covers Richard III's reign and his eventual defeat at the Battle of Bosworth Field, which led to the end of the Plantagenet dynasty and the beginning of the Tudor dynasty.More's account of Richard III is generally negative, portraying him as a ruthless and ambitious ruler who was responsible for the deaths of his nephews and other members of the royal family. However, some historians have criticized More's account as biased and unreliable, as he was writing during the reign of Henry VIII, who had a vested interest in portraying Richard III as a villain. Despite these criticisms, More's History of King Richard III remains an important historical document and a fascinating insight into the politics and power struggles of medieval England. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
