Beskrivelse af Monna Vanna A Play in Three Acts
Monna Vanna is a play in three acts written by Belgian playwright Maurice Maeterlinck. The play is set in medieval Italy and tells the story of Vanna, a noblewoman who is forced to make a difficult decision to save her city from being conquered by an enemy army. The enemy commander, Guido, demands that Vanna spend the night with him in exchange for sparing the city. Vanna agrees to the deal, but instead of submitting to Guido's advances, she drugs him and steals his plans for the invasion. Vanna's husband, Marco, discovers her plan and is torn between his love for Vanna and his loyalty to his city. The play explores themes of love, sacrifice, and the consequences of war. Maeterlinck's poetic language and vivid imagery make Monna Vanna a captivating and thought-provoking read.1903. Play by the Belgian poet, dramatist, essayist and Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, whose literary career began with the publication of two volumes of poetry.
