Beskrivelse af Melincourt; Or Sir Oran Hautton
Melincourt; Or Sir Oran Hautton is a satirical novel by Thomas Love Peacock, first published in 1817. The novel follows the story of the Melincourt family, a wealthy and eccentric group of individuals living in a secluded estate in Wales. The protagonist, Sir Oran Hautton, is a wealthy and eccentric baronet who has spent most of his life traveling the world and collecting exotic artifacts. He returns to England to find a wife and, after a series of comical mishaps, falls in love with the beautiful and intelligent Anthelia Melincourt. However, their relationship is threatened by the interference of various other characters, including the scheming Mr. Fax and the religious fanatic Mr. Escot. Throughout the novel, Peacock uses satire to critique various aspects of English society, including politics, religion, and the aristocracy. He also explores themes of love, marriage, and the nature of human relationships. The novel is known for its witty dialogue, clever wordplay, and playful use of literary conventions. It is considered one of Peacock's most successful works and a significant example of the satirical novel genre. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
