Beskrivelse af Martin Marprelate And Shakespeare's Fluellen
Martin Marprelate and Shakespeare's Fluellen: A New Theory of the Authorship of the Marprelate Tracts is a book written by John Dover Wilson and published in 1912. The book presents a new theory regarding the authorship of the Marprelate Tracts, a series of controversial pamphlets published in the late 16th century that criticized the Church of England and its hierarchy. Wilson argues that the Marprelate Tracts were not written by a single author, as was previously believed, but rather by a group of writers who were associated with the London theater scene. He suggests that one of the writers may have been William Shakespeare, based on similarities between the language and style of the Marprelate Tracts and some of Shakespeare's plays. The book also examines the character of Fluellen, a Welsh soldier who appears in Shakespeare's play Henry V, and suggests that he may have been based on one of the authors of the Marprelate Tracts. Wilson draws on historical and literary evidence to support his theory, and provides a detailed analysis of the language and themes of both the Marprelate Tracts and Shakespeare's works. Overall, Martin Marprelate and Shakespeare's Fluellen is a scholarly work that offers a new perspective on the authorship of the Marprelate Tracts and sheds light on the literary and cultural context of Elizabethan England. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
