Beskrivelse af Marching Men
Marching Men is a novel written by Sherwood Anderson that was first published in 1917. The book is set in the early 20th century and follows the lives of a group of working-class men in the fictional town of Coal Creek, Ohio. The story is told from the perspective of one of the men, named David Gerhardt, who is a young factory worker struggling to find his place in the world. As the men in the town prepare for a labor strike, David becomes increasingly disillusioned with his life and the society around him. He begins to question the meaning of his existence and the purpose of the strike, which he feels may not truly improve the lives of the workers. Along the way, he falls in love with a young woman named Hilda, who shares his sense of disillusionment and helps him to see the world in a new way.Marching Men is a powerful portrayal of the struggles and aspirations of working-class Americans during a time of great social and economic change. Anderson's writing is characterized by his vivid descriptions of the characters and their surroundings, as well as his exploration of themes such as identity, class, and the meaning of life. The novel has been praised for its realism, its social commentary, and its poignant portrayal of the human experience. It is evening and the people of Chicago go home from work. Clatter, clatter, clatter, go the heels on the hard pavements, jaws wag, the wind blows and dirt drifts and sifts through the masses of the people. Every one has dirty ears. The stench in the street cars is horrible. The antiquated bridges over the rivers are packed with people. The suburban trains going away south and west are cheaply constructed and dangerous. A people calling itself great and living in a city also called great go to their houses a mere disorderly mass of humans cheaply equipped. Everything is cheap. When the people get home to their houses they sit on cheap chairs before cheap tables and eat cheap food. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
