Mansfield Park (Deseret Alphabet edition)

Bag om Mansfield Park (Deseret Alphabet edition)

Jane Austen (1775-1817) was an English novelist whose works of romantic fiction, set among the landed gentry, earned her a place as one of the most widely read writers in English literature. Her realism and biting social commentary have gained her historical importance among scholars and critics. Mansfield Park (1814) is her thirdpublished novel and easily her most controversial. Deliberately darker in tone than its predecessor, Pride and Prejudice, it is the story of Fanny Price, an impoverished but respectable girl fostered out to her wealthy relations. Fanny must endure humiliation, neglect, misunder- standing, and bad acting before she is finally able to win through to marriage with a man worthy of her. This book is in the Deseret Alphabet, a phonetic alphabet for writing English developed in the mid-19th century at the University of Deseret (now the University of Utah).
