Beskrivelse af Love's Cure or the Martial Maid
Love's Cure or The Martial Maid: A Comedy is a play written by Francis Beaumont in 1718. The story revolves around the character of Leucippe, a young woman who has been raised as a warrior and is skilled in martial arts. She falls in love with a man named Diphilus, but her father forbids the relationship. In order to win her father's approval, Leucippe disguises herself as a man and joins an army in a war against her own city. She proves herself to be a brave and skilled fighter, and eventually wins the battle. As a result, her father relents and allows her to marry Diphilus. The play is a romantic comedy that explores themes of gender roles, love, and the power of determination. It was well-received by audiences in the 18th century and remains a popular work of literature today. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
