Loup Garou, The

The year is 1755, and Robert, a ten-year-old boy living with his family in Nova Scotia, is facing the biggest challenge of his life. When the English arrive in their town, Robert and his family and friends suddenly find themselves faced with the threat of separation and the loss of their homes. When the boys and their fathers are tricked and taken prisoner in a church, Robert, with the help of the Micmac Indians and the mysterious Loup Garou, helps his family in their struggle to stay together in their homeland.Based on the eighteenth-century expulsion of the French Acadians from Nova Scotia by the English, this suspenseful story introduces middle readers to the group of people that would eventually become Louisiana's Acadians, or Cajuns. The Cajuns say that the Loup Garou, a legendary creature who turns from man to wolf at twilight, lives on today in the bayous of Louisiana.
