Beskrivelse af Lays Of Ancient Rome And Other Poems (1911)
Lays of Ancient Rome and Other Poems is a collection of poems written by the renowned English historian and essayist, Thomas Babington Macaulay. The book was first published in 1842 and has since become a classic in English literature. The collection comprises four long narrative poems, all of which are set in ancient Rome and celebrate the glory and heroism of the Roman people. The first poem, ""Horatius"", tells the story of a brave Roman soldier who defends a bridge against an invading army. The second poem, ""The Battle of Lake Regillus"", recounts the legendary battle between Rome and the Latin League. The third poem, ""Virginius"", is a tragic tale of a father who kills his own daughter to save her from a fate worse than death. The final poem, ""The Prophecy of Capys"", is a prophetic vision of the future greatness of Rome. In addition to the four main poems, the book also includes several other shorter poems on a variety of subjects, including love, nature, and patriotism. Macaulay's writing is characterized by its vivid descriptions, stirring rhythms, and powerful imagery, making Lays of Ancient Rome and Other Poems a timeless masterpiece of English poetry. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
