Beskrivelse af Knights of Aristophanes
The Knights of Aristophanes is a comedic play written by the ancient Greek playwright, Aristophanes. The play is set in Athens during the Peloponnesian War and follows the story of a sausage-seller named Demosthenes, who becomes fed up with the corrupt leadership of Cleon, a popular politician. Demosthenes seeks the help of the Knights, a group of wealthy and influential citizens, to overthrow Cleon and restore democracy to Athens. The play is full of satire and parody, as Aristophanes pokes fun at the political and social issues of his time. The Knights of Aristophanes is a classic example of Old Comedy and is still performed and studied today for its historical and literary significance.1836. With notes critical and explanatory, adapted to the use of schools and universities. Aristophanes was a Greek comic playwright. A brilliant satirist, he used the freedom of Old Comedy to ridicule public figures, institutions, and even the gods. His favorite targets were the demagogue Cleon, whom he attacked in this work. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
