Beskrivelse af Is Santa Claus a Bigot?
Once again another Christmas holiday has passed and the exclusive or predominant images promoted by the mainstream media portray the holiday, Jesus, God, disciples and Santa Claus as white. In a world, whereby most of the global population is people of color, the idols of goodness, eternal salvation and mercy are white. Therefore, the 16 percent of the world that claims to be white are perceived as blessed and privileged because they are supposedly made in the image of god, his son and loyal followers. Megyn Kelley, a Fox Host, made this declaration and later stated she was joking. Clearly, white hegemony over images of the most high in the USA is a norm and is no joke, except upon the truth and the 84 percent of the world population excluded for having too much melanin. The truth is these hegemonic images are frauds promoted to foster ethnocentric privilege and socioeconomic devalue-tion of people of color to concentrate wealth among the white ruling class and their minions. There are three different versions of Santa Claus (1) a fat belly, rosy cheek, long white beard, pink or pale skinned person who is omnipresent, (2) a family's father or grandfather who provides gifts to the youngest family members, and (3) the traditional Saint Nicholas of the 4th century B.C. who died slightly over 300 years after the earthly death of Jesus Christ. There are Nordic prototypes of the former, like Kris Kringle, that derived from the tradition of Saint Nicholas. Aisha Harris offered us another fantasy version that does not offend the self-esteem of any child by not looking like them. She offered an image of Santa Claus as a penguin.
