Beskrivelse af Intercepted Letters
Intercepted Letters: Or The Twopenny Post-Bag is a collection of satirical letters written by various fictional characters in the late 18th century. The letters were originally published in a British newspaper and were meant to poke fun at the social and political issues of the time. The book is divided into three parts, each containing a different set of letters. The first part is written by a group of women who gossip about their friends and society in general. The second part is written by a group of men who discuss politics and current events. The third part is a collection of miscellaneous letters, including some from famous historical figures such as Napoleon Bonaparte. To add to the humor, the letters are written in a variety of styles and voices, ranging from formal to slangy. The book also includes footnotes and annotations by the editor, Thomas Moore, who provides context and explanations for some of the references in the letters. In addition to Intercepted Letters, the book also includes a collection of Moore's own satirical essays and poems, collectively titled Trifles Reprinted. These pieces cover a range of topics, from fashion to politics, and are written in a similar style to the intercepted letters. Overall, Intercepted Letters: Or The Twopenny Post-Bag is a witty and entertaining look at 18th-century British society and politics, as seen through the eyes of fictional letter writers. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
