Beskrivelse af In the Midst of Darkness
Having served with the British Army as a soldier for nearly eighteen years and then as a civil servant for another twenty years, the author has travelled the world and lived life to the full.
Part of 2 Para group, 4 Field Regt Royal Artillery in 1982, he served as the signaller in the Forward Observation Officers Party, attached to A Company The 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment.
Several ex-soldiers have talked with him about their time in the South Atlantic during this time. How they have been unable to come to terms with the events and what they saw. Their honesty, combined with his personal thoughts and experiences, and profound conversations with other soldiers who profess to being emotionally unscathed - just like the author (or are they just ticking timebombs waiting to explode?) - became the catalyst for the real, raw and moving poems in this, his debut poetry collection.
Capturing the essence of army life, war, camaraderie and mental health in various settings (including the Falklands and Northern Ireland) this is a rousing poetry book which will stay with you long after the last poem is read.
