I Believe . . . a Creed for People Who Don't Believe in Creeds

Bag om I Believe . . . a Creed for People Who Don't Believe in Creeds

Creeds have existed in the Christian church for centuries. As effective as creeds may or may not have been in the past, nowadays they have been relegated to the junk pile of irrelevancy largely due to pervasive biblical ignorance. On the other hand, there is the view that creeds are harmful because they do not fully explore the Bible doctrines and might lead people into error. Creeds were originally teaching tools used to instruct converts to the Christian faith. In the face of modern biblical ignorance and the general lack of understanding of the Christian faith, it seems that at least one of the old creeds could be resurrected to acquaint newcomers, if not many established church members, with the essential points of the Christian faith. The simplest and most eloquent of the ancient creeds is the Apostles' Creed. In this book we explore the points of the creed, ascertaining their biblical basis and their significance in the Christian faith. The word creed is derived from the Latin word credere, meaning to believe. Christians believe something, but what is that something we believe? The Apostles' Creed is a starting point for explaining the Christian faith, and it is inclusive of all the essential teachings of Christianity. It is easy to memorize and to recite, and for that reason, it is a useful tool in sharing the Christian faith with those that do not yet have faith.
