Beskrivelse af Humphrey Bold
Humphrey Bold: A Story of the Time of Benbow is a historical novel written by Herbert Strang and originally published in 1909. The story is set in the late 17th century during the reign of King William III and focuses on the adventures of a young man named Humphrey Bold. Humphrey is the son of a wealthy merchant and is sent to London to learn the trade. However, he becomes caught up in the excitement of the city and joins a group of pirates who are attacking French ships in the English Channel. After a successful raid, Humphrey is captured by the French and taken to their colony in the West Indies. There, he becomes embroiled in a plot to overthrow the governor and is forced to choose between his loyalty to England and his newfound friends in the colony. The novel is set against the backdrop of the War of the Grand Alliance, which pitted England and its allies against France. The famous naval commander Admiral Benbow also makes an appearance in the story, adding to the historical context of the novel. Overall, Humphrey Bold: A Story of the Time of Benbow is a thrilling adventure tale that provides a vivid portrayal of life in the late 17th century and the dangers and challenges faced by sailors and merchants during this time. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
