Daphne Jackson was born in Ambleside and her love of nature and her resilience remained strong throughout a turbulent life. Tough, independent yet vulnerable, she gives an intimate account of her life from childhood until she became a prisoner of war in 1942.
About the Author
Daphne Jackson worked as a secretary in Java until her marriage to Charles (Jack). Their happy life together was beset by difficulties but both came through the war and its aftermath with courage. Later in London she was involved in voluntary work and loved writing, especially plays; she said doing this in her head had kept her alive while imprisoned.
