218,95 kr. In June 1795, Mary Wollstonecraft embarked on a three-month trip around Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, on undisclosed business at the request of her lover Gilbert Imlay. During the course of this voyage she wrote twenty-five letters to him, which were compiled the following year at the behest of her publisher into this volume. As a travelogue, the letters of course contain descriptions of the natural beauty of the places she visited and the habits and interests of the people she met; but what is more apparent is Mary¿s growing realization that this journey she has undertaken for Imlay ultimately won¿t heal their relationship.Letters Written During a Short Residence in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark was the last work of Mary Wollstonecraft¿s published during her lifetime; she died two years later, shortly after the birth of her second child, Mary Shelley. It follows the themes of her earlier works: a belief in reason¿s ability to elevate people, the injustice of society¿s oppression of women, and a spreading idea that commercialism does more to deprave than to enlighten humankind.

228,95 kr.

223,95 kr. One of the oldest works of feminist philosophy is A Vindication of the Rights of Woman: with Strictures on Political and Moral Subjects (1792). According to Mary Wollstonecraft, women should get an education appropriate to their social standing.Wollstonecraft addresses the political and educational philosophers of the 18th century who opposed women receiving an education. She contends that women should receive an education appropriate to their standing in society since they teach the country's children and because they have the potential to be "companions" to their husbands rather than mere wives. Wollstonecraft asserts that women are human beings deserving of the same fundamental rights as men, rejecting the idea that they are decorations for society or something to be exchanged in marriage.Wollstonecraft uses a variety of parallels to convey the situation of women in society.

107,95 kr. Mary Wollstonecraft died young, giving birth to a daughter who in turn became famous as Mary Shelley. During her brief career, she wrote a history of the French Revolution, various novels, a travel narrative and a children's book - Original Stories From Real Life. Her best known work is A Vindication of the Rights of Woman (1792).In Burke's Reflections on the Revolution in France (1790), he defended constitutional monarchy, the aristocracy, and the Church of England, In doing so he made an attack on Mary's friend, the Rev Richard Price. She wrote this work in response, attacking the aristocracy and the despotic nature of British government, whilst advocating a democratic republic. It was the first shot in the Revolution Controversy pamphlet war in which Thomas Paine's Rights of Man (1792) became the rallying cry for reformers and radicals alike.Published in support of the Working Class Movement Library in Salford - Manchester's twin city.
