Lamia is a poem written by the English Romantic poet John Keats. It was first published in 1820 and tells the story of a beautiful serpent-woman named Lamia who falls in love with a mortal man named Lycius. Lamia transforms herself into a human woman and the two begin a passionate relationship. However, their happiness is short-lived as the philosopher Apollonius reveals Lamia's true identity and Lycius dies of shock. The poem explores themes of love, illusion, and the dangers of pursuing the unattainable.
