Beskrivelse af Eltham House (1915)
""Eltham House"" is a novel written by Mary Augusta Ward and first published in 1915. The story is set in the early 20th century and revolves around the lives of the residents of Eltham House, a grand country estate in England. The novel follows the lives of the family who own the house, the Venners, as well as their friends and servants. The Venners are a wealthy and respected family, but they are not without their problems. The patriarch of the family, Sir Victor Venner, is a proud and stubborn man who is struggling to come to terms with his advancing age. His wife, Lady Venner, is a kind and gentle woman who is devoted to her family, but she is also struggling with her own health issues. The novel also explores the lives of the Venners' children, including their son, Charles, who is a successful businessman, and their daughter, Margaret, who is engaged to be married. The family's servants also play a significant role in the story, including the head butler, Mr. Bates, and the housekeeper, Mrs. Merton. As the story unfolds, the Venners and their friends are forced to confront a number of challenges and crises, including financial difficulties, illness, and family secrets. Through it all, they must learn to rely on each other and work together to overcome their problems. Overall, ""Eltham House"" is a compelling and thought-provoking novel that explores themes of family, loyalty, and resilience in the face of adversity. Ward's vivid descriptions of the English countryside and her nuanced characterizations of the novel's many characters make this a must-read for fans of classic literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
