Beskrivelse af Ebony and Ivory
Ebony and Ivory is a novel by Llewelyn Powys that was first published in 1923. The story follows the lives of two brothers, Ebony and Ivory, who are born into a privileged family in England. Ebony is the elder brother, and he is dark, brooding, and passionate, while Ivory is fair, gentle, and scholarly. Despite their differences, the brothers are devoted to each other and share a deep bond.As they grow up, Ebony becomes increasingly drawn to the wild, untamed landscapes of the English countryside, while Ivory is more interested in books and intellectual pursuits. When their father dies, the brothers inherit the family estate, but they soon find themselves at odds over how to manage it. Ebony wants to preserve the land in its natural state, while Ivory wants to modernize and develop it.Their differences come to a head when Ebony falls in love with a beautiful gypsy girl named Rosalind, who is shunned by society because of her ethnicity. Ivory disapproves of the relationship and tries to break them apart, leading to a bitter feud between the brothers.Ebony and Ivory is a powerful and moving exploration of the complexities of sibling relationships, the clash between tradition and modernity, and the struggle to find one's place in the world. Powys's vivid descriptions of the English countryside and his evocative prose make this novel a timeless classic of English literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
