The mental disorder which causes abnormal eating habits is referred to as an eating disorder. It can have a negative effect on the physical and mental health of a person. Some of the common eating disorders are binge eating disorder, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and pica. Binge eating disorder is a condition where people eat a huge amount of food in a short period of time. Anorexia nervosa involves people eating too less, resulting in low body weight. In bulimia nervosa, people eat a lot of food and then try to get rid of it. Pica involves people eating non-food items. The causes of such disorders can be genetic as well as psychiatric.
