David's Story

- As Told By Grace Tinker

Bag om David's Story

This story is a work of creative non-fiction. That means that this is a true story, but some of the pieces and parts of it that were not completely known, were handled creatively. For example, David's mother is unknown. However we obviously know that David had a mother. We know that she loved him. She named him Ganerdine Erdine Ochir, which means beautiful, strong treasure. She didn't give him up till he was too sick for her to care for. She carried many of the same diseases that he carried and was probably too sick herself to care for him. Because of the diseases that David (and therefore his mother) carried we can readily assume that she picked them up professionally. We know that she gave him up because there was no one else to take care of David. There was no husband, no father. There was no family on either side of the family. We know this because Mongolians love their children. They would never give them up. Not even for adoption. Only in the most hopeless case is a child given to another family, but that family must first be adopted into the family that is giving up their child. The two families become one and then the child is placed into the care of its new relatives.
