Beskrivelse af Clara Hopgood (1896)
Clara Hopgood is a novel written by Mark Rutherford and originally published in 1896. The story revolves around two sisters, Clara and Mary Hopgood, who are brought up in a strict religious household. Clara, the elder sister, is a devout Christian who takes her faith very seriously, while Mary is more carefree and rebellious. When Clara falls in love with a young man named Robert Gainsborough, she is torn between her love for him and her loyalty to her faith. As she struggles to reconcile these conflicting emotions, she begins to question the rigid beliefs that have been instilled in her since childhood. Meanwhile, Mary also falls in love with a man, but her relationship is met with disapproval from their family and community. The novel explores themes of love, faith, and the struggle for personal freedom in a society that values conformity above all else. Through the experiences of the Hopgood sisters, Rutherford offers a critique of Victorian-era morality and the limitations it placed on women's lives. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
