Christopher Makos: Lady Warhol

Bag om Christopher Makos: Lady Warhol

During the summer of 1981 in New York, pop artist Andy Warhol and photographer Christopher Makos visited an elegant wig shop on 57th Street and purchased seven of them. Their goal was to make a project they called "Altered Image", a long series of portraits in which Andy Warhol is the model and the transgressive genre of the 1980s clashes with the spirit of Man Ray's project titled "Rrose Sélavy" in which he photographed Marcel Duchamp dressed as a Parisian lady in the 1920s. Lady Warhol offers over 100 black-and-white photographs, more than 100 portraits that cover various poses, focuses and shots (detailed, "American", half body and side, as in a Roman bust). The Pop Art icon's body and subtle gestures condition a series characterised by the model's extensive body language, which highlights his evident need to express himself in public.
