Beskrivelse af Charlotte Temple
Charlotte Temple is a novel written by Susanna Rowson and published in 1791. The story follows the life of Charlotte Temple, a young English girl who falls in love with a soldier named Montraville. Against her parents' wishes, Charlotte elopes with Montraville to America, where she soon discovers that he is not the man she thought he was. Montraville's reckless behavior and infidelity lead Charlotte down a path of misery and despair, ultimately resulting in her tragic demise. The novel explores themes of love, betrayal, and the consequences of impulsive decisions. It also sheds light on the societal expectations and restrictions placed on women during the 18th century. With its sentimental style and moralistic tone, Charlotte Temple became a popular novel in its time and remains a classic example of early American literature.""Oh, my father!"" cried Miss Eldridge, tenderly taking his hand, ""be not anxious on that account; for daily are my prayers offered to heaven that our lives may terminate at the same instant, and one grave receive us both; for why should I live when deprived of my only friend.""This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
