1.140,95 kr. Devoted to the theory of Lie algebras and algebraic groups, this book includes a large amount of commutative algebra and algebraic geometry so as to make it as self-contained as possible. The aim of the book is to assemble in a single volume the algebraic aspects of the theory, so as to present the foundations of the theory in characteristic zero. Detailed proofs are included, and some recent results are discussed in the final chapters.

1.107,95 kr. This book is a concept-oriented treatment of the structure theory of association schemes. The generalization of Sylow's group theoretic theorems to scheme theory arises as a consequence of arithmetical considerations about quotient schemes. The theory of Coxeter schemes (equivalent to the theory of buildings) emerges naturally and yields a purely algebraic proof of Tits' main theorem on buildings of spherical type.

1.140,95 kr. This book presents the first systematic and unified treatment of the theory of mean periodic functions on homogeneous spaces. This area has its classical roots in the beginning of the twentieth century and is now a very active research area, having close connections to harmonic analysis, complex analysis, integral geometry, and analysis on symmetric spaces. The main purpose of this book is the study of local aspects of spectral analysis and spectral synthesis on Euclidean spaces, Riemannian symmetric spaces of an arbitrary rank and Heisenberg groups. The subject can be viewed as arising from three classical topics: John's support theorem, Schwartz's fundamental principle, and Delsarte's two-radii theorem. Highly topical, the book contains most of the significant recent results in this area with complete and detailed proofs. In order to make this book accessible to a wide audience, the authors have included an introductory section that develops analysis on symmetric spaces without the use of Lie theory. Challenging open problems are described and explained, and promising new research directions are indicated.Designed for both experts and beginners in the field, the book is rich in methods for a wide variety of problems in many areas of mathematics.

1.138,95 kr. This monograph deals with products of Dedekind's eta function, with Hecke theta series on quadratic number fields, and with Eisenstein series. The author brings to the public the large number of identities that have been discovered over the past 20 years, the majority of which have not been published elsewhere. The book will be of interest to graduate students and scholars in the field of number theory and, in particular, modular forms. It is not an introductory text in this field. Nevertheless, some theoretical background material is presented that is important for understanding the examples in Part II of the book. In Part I relevant definitions and essential theorems -- such as a complete proof of the structure theorems for coprime residue class groups in quadratic number fields that are not easily accessible in the literature -- are provided. Another example is a thorough description of an algorithm for listing all eta products of given weight and level, together with proofs of some results on the bijection between these eta products and lattice simplices.

1.112,95 kr. The study of surfaces with constant mean curvature (CMC) is one of the main topics in classical differential geometry. Moreover, CMC surfaces are important mathematical models for the physics of interfaces in the absence of gravity, where they separate two different media or for capillary phenomena. Further, as most techniques used in the theory of CMC surfaces not only involve geometric methods but also PDE and complex analysis, the theory is also of great interest for many other mathematical fields. While minimal surfaces and CMC surfaces in general have already been treated in the literature, the present work is the first to present a comprehensive study of "compact surfaces with boundaries," narrowing its focus to a geometric view. Basic issues include the discussion whether the symmetries of the curve inherit to the surface; the possible values of the mean curvature, area and volume; stability; the circular boundary case and the existence of the Plateau problem in the non-parametric case. The exposition provides an outlook on recent research but also a set of techniques that allows the results to be expanded to other ambient spaces. Throughout the text, numerous illustrations clarify the results and their proofs. The book is intended for graduate students and researchers in the field of differential geometry and especially theory of surfaces, including geometric analysis and geometric PDEs. It guides readers up to the state-of-the-art of the theory and introduces them to interesting open problems.
