Second harmonic generation imaging combined with optical tissue clearing is an accurate method for determining the three-dimensional muscle fiber and sheet orientations and hence, allows the calculation of fiber rotation throughout the ventricle wall.

This work exploits the natural experiment provided by the unexpected disintegration of socialist East Germany to study the impact of the mass immigration of East Germans on housing rents in West German metropolitan areas.

In hismaster thesis, Vladimir Herdt presents a novel approach, called completesymbolic simulation, for a more efficient verification ofmuch larger (non-terminating) SystemC programs. Theapproach combines symbolic simulation with stateful model checking and allowsto verify safety properties in (cyclic) finite state spaces, by exhaustiveexploration of all possible inputs and process schedulings. The state explosionproblem is alleviated by integrating two complementary reduction techniques. Comparedto existing approaches, the complete symbolic simulation works more efficiently,and therefore can provide correctness proofs for larger systems, which is oneof the most challenging tasks, due to the ever increasing complexity.

In his master thesis,Sven Painer develops, implements, and evaluates a method to reconstruct theliver surface from monocular mini-laparoscopic sequences. The principal focus ofhis research is to create a basis for helping clinicians to write reports withquantitative descriptions of the liver surface. A Structure from Motion approachis performed to do a sparse reconstruction of the liver surface and subsequentlythis information is used in a variation based dense 3D reconstruction. Thealgorithms are formulated in a causal way, enabling the implementation to be runin real-time on an adequate hardware platform. The results show a significantperformance increase and pave the way to give clinicians a feedback duringvideo capturing to improve the quality of the reconstruction in the nearfuture.

In a multimethod laboratory study Alessia Ruf compared multimodal learning in system-paced and self-paced environments over time. The results show that overall participants achieved the highest learning success in short- and long-term when they learned with visual texts and controlled the learning time by themselves.

Janne Marie Soetbeer determines the optimal dynamical decoupling (DD) scheme for efficient reduction of electron spin coherence loss in model systems for spin labelled biomolecules depending on their particular relaxation behavior. Extending the nth order DD scheme to double electron-electron resonance (DEER) experiments require the addition of multiple pump pulses for = 1. Incomplete excitation of pump spin packets introduce signal artefacts which are minimized by pump pulse optimization including linear-chirp and asymmetric hyperbolic secant pulses. Prolonging the dipolar evolution time with decreased signal artefact allows to extent the measurable interspin distances in biomolecules which were otherwise not accessible due to spin echo relaxation. 

Kim Leonie Kellermann analyzes the impact of sectoral minimum wages in Germany on the willingness of youths to undergo apprenticeship training. Using data from the German Socio-economic Panel, the author shows that higher wage floors set small, positive incentives for vocational training in the respective sectors.

Christoph Jan Bartodziej examines by means of an empirical study which potential Industry 4.0 technologies do have regarding end-to-end digital integration in production logistics based on their functions.
