The branch of science which is concerned with the study of hearing and related disorders is called audiology. The doctors who specialize in treating those with hearing loss and other hearing ailments are known as audiologists. A surgically implanted neuroprosthetic device which provides a sense of sound to a person having severe hearing loss is known as a cochlear implant.
