Asmodeus

Asmodeus: Or The Devil On Two Sticks is a novel written by French author Alain Rene Le Sage in 1879. Asmodeus agrees to help and carries Don Cleofas on his back as they fly over the city, peering into windows and eavesdropping on conversations of the city's elite. Along the way, they encounter a variety of characters, including a young woman who is being forced into a loveless marriage, a group of gamblers, and a corrupt judge. The novel is a satirical commentary on the social and political issues of 18th century Spain, and Le Sage uses Asmodeus as a vehicle to expose the corruption and hypocrisy of the ruling class.
