Beskrivelse af Arachne
Arachne is a novel written by Georg Ebers, originally published in German in 1876. The story takes place in ancient Egypt and follows the life of a young weaver named Arachne. Arachne is talented and ambitious, and dreams of becoming the greatest weaver in all of Egypt. However, her skill and ambition attract the attention of the goddess Athena, who becomes jealous of Arachne's talent and challenges her to a weaving contest. The contest is intense, and both weavers create intricate and beautiful tapestries. However, Athena's tapestry is deemed superior, and Arachne is humiliated. In her anger and despair, Arachne attempts to take her own life, but is saved by the goddess Minerva. Minerva offers Arachne a chance to redeem herself by becoming her servant, and Arachne accepts.Arachne becomes Minerva's loyal servant and travels with her to Rome, where she witnesses the rise of Christianity and the fall of the Roman Empire. Along the way, she meets a number of historical figures, including Julius Caesar and Cleopatra. Through her experiences, Arachne learns about love, loyalty, and the importance of using her talents for good.Arachne is a richly detailed historical novel that explores themes of ambition, jealousy, and redemption. Ebers' vivid descriptions of ancient Egypt and Rome bring the story to life, and his characters are complex and compelling. The novel is a timeless tale of a young woman's journey to find her place in the world, and is sure to captivate readers of all ages.Perhaps the words might have been warmer, but for his annoyance at the insolent boldness with which she had removed the coverings from his works. He restrained himself from openly blaming her, it is true, but he exclaimed, with a tinge of gay sarcasm: ""You seem to feel very much at home here already, fairest of the fair. Or was it the goddess herself who removed the curtain from her image in order to show herself to her successor upon this pedestal?""This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
