Bag om Annals And Reminiscences Of Jamaica Plain

Annals And Reminiscences Of Jamaica Plain is a historical book written by Harriet Manning Whitcomb. The book provides a detailed account of the history of Jamaica Plain, a neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts. The author shares her personal experiences and memories of the area, as well as the stories of the people who lived there. The book covers the period from the early settlement of Jamaica Plain in the 17th century to the early 20th century. The author also discusses the social, cultural, and economic changes that occurred during this period. The book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of Jamaica Plain and the development of Boston as a whole. On the corner of Centre and Boylston streets one is attracted by a quaint and picturesque dwelling, in style and setting one is the most interesting of the older houses in our town, which tells the story of its age on one of its chimneys, 1738 being the date. It was erected by Captain Benjamin Hallowell, who married a Miss Boylston, of Boston, whose family was prominent in its early history. He was a hot-headed, active loyalist, and commissioner of His Majesty's customs, as well as mandamus councilor, which facts made him obnoxious to the public, and in 1775, during the siege of Boston, he found it wise hastily to vacate his house and seek refuge in the city. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
