Beskrivelse af Andree
Andree: The Record of a Tragic Adventure is a non-fiction book written by George Palmer Putnam. The book chronicles the ill-fated expedition of Swedish explorer Salomon August Andree, who attempted to reach the North Pole by balloon in 1897. Andree and his two companions, Nils Strindberg and Knut Fraenkel, set off from Spitsbergen in Norway in July of that year but were never seen alive again. Putnam's book draws on the diaries and journals of the explorers, as well as contemporary news reports and interviews with surviving family members. The author paints a vivid picture of the challenges faced by Andree and his team, including the harsh Arctic climate, the difficulties of navigating by balloon, and the dangers posed by polar bears and other wildlife. Despite the tragic outcome of the expedition, Andree's story captured the public imagination at the time and continues to be a source of fascination for historians and adventurers today. Putnam's book provides a compelling account of this daring and ultimately doomed mission, shedding light on the bravery and perseverance of those who seek to explore the world's most remote and unforgiving regions. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
