Beskrivelse af An Enemy of the People
""An Enemy of the People"" is a play written by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. The story revolves around Dr. Thomas Stockmann, a medical officer in a small Norwegian town, who discovers that the town's new public baths are contaminated with a dangerous bacteria that can cause serious illnesses. Dr. Stockmann tries to alert the town authorities and the public about the danger, but he is met with resistance and opposition from the town's leaders who are more concerned about the economic impact of closing the baths than the health of their citizens. As the conflict intensifies, Dr. Stockmann becomes increasingly isolated and vilified, and he must decide whether to compromise his principles or fight for the truth at all costs. The play explores themes of individualism, democracy, and the power of the majority over the minority. It is a powerful commentary on the importance of speaking truth to power and the consequences of standing up against the status quo.Hovstad. I am of humble origin, as you know; and that has given me opportunities of knowing what is the most crying need in the humbler ranks of life. It is that they should be allowed some part in the direction of public affairs, Doctor. That is what will develop their faculties and intelligence and self respect. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
